Stephen J. Thorne | The story behind The Wounded
Armistice Military Moments
Nov. 11, 2018, marked the 100th anniversary of the armistice that effectively ended the First World War. To commemorate the event, Legion Magazine produced a series of video shorts on various elements of the conflict, written and narrated by Stephen J. Thorne. The videos were edited by Adam Tindal, the magazine’s web and social media coordinator.
“Forged In Fire” looks the emergence of Canada as a player on the international stage, largely thanks to steadfast leadership and its contributions to the victory in Europe.
“The Armistice” describes how Germany’s unconditional surrender sowed the seeds of the Second World War.
“Jeremiah Jones” tells the incredible story of a Black man from Nova Scotia who, despite his heroism on Vimy Ridge, went unrecognized for more than 70 years.
“The Victoria Cross” tells the story of Canada and the British Commonwealth’s highest away for valour; 73 Canadians earned VCs during WWI, 16 in WWII.
“The Bluebirds” describes the women who were more angel than mortal to many a wounded and dying soldier.
“Canada and the First World War” explains the role Canada played in what was then thought to be “the war to end all wars.”
